Starting a Live-Sight Call
From the Live-Sight Tab (Recommended)
The easiest way to start a Live-Sight call is from the dedicated Live-Sight bottom tab:
Tap the Live-Sight Tab
Tap the Live-Sight tab in the bottom navigation bar. You'll see a sortable list of all hub members.
Find a Member
Browse the member list sorted alphabetically, or toggle to group members by channel. Online members appear at the top; members who are busy or in a call are shown as unavailable.
Tap to Call
Tap any available member to start a Live-Sight video call directly. Your camera activates and the call request is sent.
From the Member Action Sheet (Alternative)
Open Members Drawer
Tap the people icon on the PTT screen.
Tap a Member
Tap the member you want to share video with. The action sheet appears.
Tap Live-Sight
Tap the video icon (Live-Sight) button. Your camera activates and the call request is sent.
From Quick Action Icons
Tap the video icon in the member row for one-tap Live-Sight.
Receiving a Live-Sight Call
When someone initiates Live-Sight with you:
- The incoming call screen appears with a live camera preview in the background
- The text reads: "[Name] wants to show you something (Live-Sight)"
- You have 30 seconds to accept or decline
- Your device vibrates to alert you
During a Live-Sight Call
Full-Screen Mode
The Live-Sight overlay takes over the full screen:
- Remote video fills the screen (what the other person's camera sees)
- Local video appears as a small, draggable picture-in-picture (PiP) window
- Controls appear at the bottom and auto-hide after 5 seconds
- A red LIVE indicator shows when your camera is active
- Tap the screen to show/hide controls
Controls
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| Mute | Toggle your microphone |
| Flip Camera | Switch between front and rear camera |
| End Call | Disconnect the video call |
| Minimize | Shrink to a small PiP overlay |
Picture-in-Picture
Tap minimize to shrink the Live-Sight to a small overlay that floats on top of the app. You can:
- Drag the PiP window to any corner of the screen
- Tap it to return to full-screen view
- Continue using other CrewTalk features while the call runs
Video Quality
Live-Sight uses adaptive video quality:
| Quality | Resolution | When Used |
|---|---|---|
| High | 720p (1280x720) | Strong Wi-Fi or 5G |
| Medium | 480p | Moderate connection |
| Low | 360p | Weak connection |
- Framerate: 30fps target
- Bitrate: 500-1500 kbps (adaptive)
- Codec priority: Maintain framerate over resolution
The quality automatically adjusts based on your network conditions — no manual intervention needed.
Live-Sight is perfect for:
Scouting — Show a location to the director or producer remotely
Camera angles — Let the DP see what a camera operator sees in real time
Problem solving — Show a technical issue to someone who can help diagnose it
Client approval — Show a setup to a remote client for sign-off
PTT During Live-Sight
While on a Live-Sight call:
- The PTT button shows "IN LIVE-SIGHT" and is disabled
- Your presence shows "In Live-Sight" to other members
- You can still receive text messages
Network Considerations
Live-Sight video requires more bandwidth than audio-only Whisper:
- Minimum: ~500 kbps for low-quality video
- Recommended: 1.5+ Mbps for smooth 720p
- Wi-Fi preferred for best quality
- TURN relay activates automatically if direct peer connection isn't possible
