Sign-Up Options
CrewTalk offers three ways to create your account:
- Email & Password — Enter your email and choose a secure password
- Google Sign-In — Use your existing Google account
- Apple Sign-In — Use your Apple ID (iOS devices)
Google and Apple sign-in are the fastest ways to get started — no password to remember, and your display name is automatically pulled from your account.
Creating an Account with Email
Open CrewTalk
Launch the CrewTalk app on your Android or iOS device. You’ll see the authentication screen with sign-in options.
Tap ‘Sign Up’
Switch to the sign-up form by tapping the “Sign Up” tab at the top of the screen.
Enter Your Details
Fill in your display name, email address, and a secure password (minimum 6 characters). Your display name is what other crew members will see.
Tap ‘Create Account’
Hit the Create Account button. Your account is created instantly and you’re signed in.
Email Verification
After signing up with email, you’ll see a verification banner at the top of the app. Verifying your email helps with:
- Account recovery if you forget your password
- Security to confirm you own the email address
- Trust so your team knows your account is legitimate
Tap Resend if you don’t receive the verification email. Check your spam folder if it doesn’t arrive within a few minutes. Once verified, tap Done to dismiss the banner.
Setting Up Your Profile
Your profile includes two key elements that other crew members see:
Display Name
Your display name appears in the members roster, message threads, and when you transmit on PTT. Choose something your crew will recognize — your real name or a familiar callsign works best.
Avatar Photo
You can set a profile photo that appears next to your name throughout the app:
- Go to Settings (bottom tab) > Edit Profile
- Tap the camera icon on your avatar circle
- Choose Take Photo or Pick from Gallery
- Your avatar is uploaded and visible to all hub members
If you don’t set an avatar, CrewTalk generates a colored circle with your initials. The color is consistent — it’s derived from your name so you always get the same one.
Profile Changes
When you update your display name or avatar, the changes propagate to every hub you’re a member of. This means your teammates always see your current info, no matter which hub they’re viewing.
Account Security
- Your authentication tokens are stored securely in your device’s keychain (not in plain text storage)
- All communication between the app and servers uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/WSS/TLS)
- Passwords are never stored on the device — Firebase Auth handles credential management
If you signed up with Google or Apple, you can still update your display name in CrewTalk independently from your Google/Apple account name.
