Walkie-Talkie Sounds

CrewTalk can play a classic chirp sound when you press and release the PTT button, just like a traditional walkie-talkie. This provides instant audio confirmation that you're transmitting.

Why Use It?

The chirp serves two practical purposes:

  1. Confirmation — You know your PTT press registered without looking at the screen
  2. Timing — The chirp creates a natural half-second pause before you speak, preventing the first syllable from being clipped by the audio encoder
💡 First-Syllable Fix

If you've noticed your first word getting cut off, enable walkie-talkie sounds. The chirp creates the perfect pause for the encoder to start capturing before you speak.

Enabling/Disabling

1

Open Settings

Go to the Settings tab (bottom navigation).

2

Find Audio Section

Scroll to the Audio section.

3

Toggle Walkie-Talkie Sounds

Tap the toggle next to Walkie-Talkie Sounds to enable or disable the chirp.

How It Works

  • The chirp sound is a short, bundled audio file that plays locally on your device
  • It's preloaded when the app starts, so there's zero delay when you press PTT
  • The sound plays through your current audio output (speaker, headset, or Bluetooth)
  • It does not transmit over the channel — only you hear it

When to Use It

Enable walkie-talkie sounds when:

  • You want confirmation that PTT is active without looking at the screen
  • You're wearing a headset and can't see the visual indicators
  • You're in a noisy environment and need audio feedback
  • You want the authentic walkie-talkie experience

Disable walkie-talkie sounds when:

  • You're in a quiet environment where the chirp might be disruptive
  • You prefer silent operation
  • You're using Bluetooth PTT and want minimal audio feedback
