Desktop Client

A native desktop client for macOS and Windows is planned, bringing the full CrewTalk experience to your computer. This will be a standalone application — not the web portal, but a full communication client.

Planned Features

  • PTT — Push-to-talk with keyboard shortcut (e.g., spacebar or configurable key)
  • Messaging — Channel messages and DMs
  • Voice calls — Whisper (full-duplex voice)
  • Video calls — Live-Sight video
  • Channel monitoring — Monitor multiple channels
  • Waveform visualizer — Audio visualization on desktop
  • System tray — Run in background with tray icon
  • Keyboard shortcuts — Full keyboard control for power users

Use Cases

A desktop client is ideal for:

  • Video village — Directors and clients monitoring from a laptop at the monitor station
  • Remote production — Producers and editors participating from their office
  • Post-production — Communication with on-set crew while editing
  • Control rooms — Live event production with dedicated workstations
  • Production offices — Pre-production coordination without needing a phone

Current Alternatives

Until the desktop client is available:

  • Web Portal — Management features (members, invites, settings) from any browser
  • Mobile App — Full communication features on iOS/Android
  • Android emulator — Advanced users can run the Android app in an emulator on desktop (not officially supported)
📝 Note

The desktop client will be a separate application from the web portal. The portal handles management; the desktop client handles communication. Both will be available simultaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions
