How Restrictions Work
When a channel is restricted for a member:
- The channel appears grayed out in the channel selector
- The member cannot switch to that channel
- The member won't hear audio from that channel (even if monitoring is enabled)
- The member won't see messages from that channel
- The member cannot send messages to that channel
Setting Restrictions
Open the Member Action Sheet
On the PTT screen, tap the member's name in the roster.
Open Channel Restrictions
In the Management section (admin/owner only), tap Channel Restrictions.
Toggle Channels
The Channel Restrictions modal shows all 10 channels with toggle switches. Turn off any channels you want to restrict for this member.
Close
Changes take effect immediately when you toggle a switch. Close the modal when done.
Channel restrictions are stored per-member in Firestore. They persist across app restarts and sync to the member's device.
Use Cases
Department Isolation
Restrict crew members to only their department's channels:
- Camera team: Channels 1 (All Call) + 2 (Camera)
- Sound team: Channels 1 (All Call) + 4 (Sound)
- Everyone keeps access to Channel 1 for general announcements
Private Producer Channel
Keep Channel 8 restricted to producers and clients only:
- Restrict all non-producer members from Channel 8
- Producers can discuss budget, schedule, and client notes privately
Emergency Channel
Keep Channel 9 open to admins only for emergency coordination:
- Restrict regular members from Channel 9
- Admins and owners can use it for sensitive coordination
Tips
- Always leave Channel 1 open — Ensure every member has at least one common channel for all-call announcements
- Set restrictions early — Configure channel access before the shoot starts so crew members only see relevant channels
- Use the Web Portal for bulk ops — Setting restrictions for many members is faster on the web dashboard
- Review after role changes — When you promote or add new members, check that their channel restrictions are appropriate
